Rodriguez open to United move

Porto attacker James Rodriguez says he would jump at the chance to represent a club with the calibre of Manchester United.

The Colombia international has confirmed his billing as one of South America’s hottest prospects after becoming a key member of Vitor Pereira’s squad.

His performances have reportedly drawn admiring glances all over Europe, with Inter and United both understood to be keeping tabs on the 20-year-old.

“For now, I keep thinking about Porto and about winning the Portuguese Liga title here,” Rodriguez told nuevoestadio.com.

“I feel very happy here, but if you give me the option to go to United, I am not going to deny that I would like to play at a like club that.”

Rodriguez, who played an important role in Porto’s 3-2 victory at Benfica last week, is the club’s top scorer in the league with 11 goals, and second highest provider with seven assists. But the youngster aims to keep improving.

“I know that I can still give so much more,” he said. “I have been working hard in training to become a starter at Porto.”

The former Banfield ace then admitted that he has high hopes for the Colombia national team after they defeated Mexico 2-0 in a friendly last week in Jose Pekerman’s first match in charge.

“Expectations are really high, there are many good players and there is a lot of trust,” Rodriguez said.

“The victory against Mexico has restored faith in the players and in the people.”
