Blackburn Rovers have appointed Eric Black as assistant manager to Steve Kean, following the departure of Paul Clement.

Rovers have been in the hunt for a number two for Kean since Clement left the club for Paris Saint-Germain, joining up with Carlo Ancelotti having worked with the Italian at Chelsea as assistant first-team coach.

Black becomes the third assistant to work under Kean, with former Arsenal defender John Jensen having also previously held the position.

Former Aberdeen and Metz striker Black has previously held a similar role at Sunderland, Wigan and Birmingham City, and had a short spell as manager of Coventry City.

Kean is expecting Black to play a key role in the fortunes of the struggling Premier League club.

“I am delighted that Eric has agreed to come on board,” the Rovers manager told the club’s official website.

“He is someone with extensive coaching experience at the highest level and I feel sure he will play a key role over the coming months.”

Black could take his place on the bench alongside Kean when Blackburn face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Blackburn currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, ahead of 18th-placed QPR only on goal difference.
