Sampdoria reveal Poli nearing Napoli switch

Italian midfielder Andrea Poli is on his way to Napoli, according to his current club Sampdoria.

The talented midfielder spent last season on loan at Inter and he did well to impress the Neroazzurri, but the two clubs could not agree on the transfer fee and he returned to Marassi.

The 22-year-old is, however, unlikely to remain with Doriani as several top Italian sides are after him.

Sampdoria sporting director Pasquale Sensibile has confirmed reports that Napoli are looking to lure the player to San Paolo.

“He has returned to Sampdoria because Inter, who were expected to keep him, didn’t take up their option to do so,” Pasquale Sensibile told Radio CRC.

“Poli’s sale to Napoli has not happened yet though. It is true that the two clubs are speaking and an agreement could be reached.

“However, the player will then have to OK any switch. There is no deal right now, but let’s say that there is a good relationship between the two clubs.”

It is believed the Azzurri would have to pay at least €6 million for Poli, although they could face a stiff competition from Milan.

The cultured midfielder has been earning rave reviews for his performances at Inter, despite failing to score in 18 Serie A appearances.
