Scottish Premier League: Dundee1 Inverness CT 4

Inverness climbed to third in the Scottish Premier League after they trounced a hapless Dundee 4-1 on Friday.

Billy McKay played a starring role for the visitors with a brace, while defender Gary Warren and Andrew Shinnie also found the scoresheet.

Inverness made a blistering start after McKay was on hand to tuck away a rebound inside the opening four minutes before Warren doubled the visitors’ advantage just three minutes later.

Dundee reduced the deficit courtesy of Colin Nish on 13 minutes and they came close to levelling the match on a number of occasions.

But Inverness punished the hosts for their failure in front of goal with a successful penalty kick after 81 minutes.

Substitute Shane Sutherland was brought down in the penalty area by Iain Davidson and Shinnie made no mistake from the spot, restoring Inverness’ two-goal lead.

And Terry Butcher’s men capped off the performance with a fourth goal through McKay on 85 minutes, which condemned Dundee to their fifth successive defeat.

Inverness are now level on points with Aberdeen and St Johnstone, three behind leaders Celtic, while Dundee remain in the relegation zone, four points adrift of local rivals Dundee United, who have three games in hand.
