(GSM) – Following a disappointing home draw with bottom side Xerez, Sevilla severed ties with manager Manolo Jiménez late on Tuesday evening.

Sevilla looked strong for much of the season, but they have gone winless in seven games in all competitions, including Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Xerez, in which the Andalucians scored in stoppage time.

Last week, Sevilla were dumped out of the Champions League by CSKA Moscow in a stunning result that left many fans calling for a change on the touchline.

Jiménez took over at Sevilla in October 2007 following the departure of Juande Ramos after seven years in charge of the club’s reserve squad.

In his time in charge, however, Sevilla have failed to win a single trophy, and management’s patience had been wearing thin with the hometown manager in recent weeks.

Ramón Tejada will control the managerial duties in a caretaker role as the search begins for a permanent replacement
