Suarez handed one-match ban for kick on Nashville defender Najar

Luis Suarez has been handed a one-match suspension for the final match of Inter Miami’s first-round MLS playoff against Nashville SC, following a post-match review of an incident involving defender Andy Najar.

Suarez’s ban was the result of an investigation from the MLS Disciplinary Committee, which found that the Uruguayan performed a careless, off-the-ball kick on Najar in the second half of Game 2 of the series at Geodis Park on November 1.

Miami lost that match 2-1 after winning the first, allowing Nashville to level the series and force a third and final game, which will take place on November 8 at Chase Stadium.

“The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended Inter Miami CF forward Luis Suarez for one match and fined Suarez an undisclosed amount under Disciplinary Committee Parameter 3 for violent conduct in the 71st minute of Inter Miami’s match against Nashville SC on November 1st,” a statement from the MLS Disciplinary Committee read.

“Suarez will serve his one-match suspension on November 8 during Miami’s match against Nashville SC.”

At the time of the incident, referee Allen Chapman did not book Suarez in any capacity, but MLS regulations permit post-match disciplinary action to be taken at the committee’s discretion.

This marks Suarez’s second MLS suspension of the year, following a three-match ban received for spitting on a member of the Seattle Sounders’ backroom staff in the Leagues Cup final in August.

Miami will be without Suarez for the final game of the series, where they are fighting for a chance to face either Columbus Crew or FC Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
