Sunderland manager Steve Bruce signed Paraguay midfielder Cristian Riveros from Mexican club Cruz Azul on Tuesday.

Riveros, who has been named in his country’s provisional World Cup squad, agreed a three-year contract with the Premier League club and joins compatriot Paulo Da Silva at the Stadium of Light.

Bruce said: “We have been monitoring Cristian for a while now, so I’m delighted to have concluded a deal which will bring him to Sunderland and the Premier League.

“He is a very creative midfielder and a player that will enhance our attacking options from wide positions for next season.”
