Manchester City’s involvement in this year’s FIFA Club World Cup has come to an end, as they suffered a shocking round-of-16 defeat to Al-Hilal.

Pep Guardiola’s men headed to the break ahead by one, courtesy of a 9th-minute goal from Bernardo Silva. Al-Hilal equalized through Marcos Leonardo straight after the restart, and Malcolm turned the score around completely six minutes later. City were back level through Erling Haaland after only three minutes, and the contest went into extra-time with the score standing at 2-2.

Kalidou Koulibaly put the Saudi side ahead again four minutes into the first extra period, and 10 minutes later, Phil Foden restored parity yet again. But the final word fell to Leonardo, who scored his second on the evening to secure Al-Hilal’s place in the quarterfinals.
