Willian regrets failed move to London

Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Willian has revealed that both Chelsea and Tottenham attempted to sign him in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian was looking to leave Ukraine for one of the top European leagues this summer, and several Premier League sides showed concrete interest in his services.

However, the Miners decided to reject approaches from Premier League giants Chelsea and Tottenham.

“I had offers from Chelsea and Tottenham,” Willian told Radio Estadao ESPN. “Tottenham’s offer was bigger than Chelsea’s – 30million euros – but president turned it down.

The player admits he still regrets not signing for one of the London clubs.

“I was hoping I could move to one of those clubs. I want to play in one of those places where there is more visibility, but unfortunately it didn’t happen.

“Now it’s time to care about the Champions League, impress and hope some clubs get interested.”

Shakhtar Donetsk start the new Champions League campaign at home to Nordsjaelland, with the talented midfielder expected in the starting line-up.

The 24-year-old is playing his fifth season for the Miners, having joined the club from Corinthians in August 2007.

In total, Willian has featured in 131 league games for the Donbass Arena outfit, scoring 19 goals in the process.
