Yanga-Mbiwa ponders African move

Montpellier captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has indicated he could switch allegiances if he is not called up for the France national team.

The key defender is still waiting for an invitation from Laurent Blanc to join Les Bleus but might change his mind if that call-up letter is delayed much longer.

Born in the Central African Republic, the 22-year-old also holds French nationality and has appeared with the France Under-21 team, but is yet to play for a senior national team and thus is eligible for the Les Bleus and Les Fauves.

“France coach knows football. If he does not invite players a lot from our side he certainly has a reason for it,” Mbiwa said in RMC.

“Others have more experience and the coach thinks it’s essential and he invites them regularly. I’m not too impatient. I feel it might come one day.”

But if it does come any time soon, Mbiwa said he might ‘go home’ for his international career.

“I am not excluding any option. I’ll first of all wait for a sign from the French team. If I’m convinced there is no possibility of playing there, I’d go and play for my fatherland, the Central African Republic,” he said.

The Central African Republic finished second in Group D of the 2012 Africa Cup Nations qualifying, failing to reach the finals.
