Napoli full-back Pablo Armero has moved to suggest that he is hoping to earn a permanent deal with West Ham.
The Colombian defender joined the Hammers on loan from Napoli on transfer deadline day in January, but he had a very difficult start to his career at Boleyn Ground.
The 27-year-old had to wait some six weeks to be handed his Premier League debut, while he started his first Premiership fixture at the weekend against title contenders Liverpool.
And having largely impressed against the Reds, the Colombia international is hoping to remain at the club beyond the current season.
“It has been very important for me to play. I thank God, my colleagues and the technical team who gave me the opportunity,” Armero told Newham Recorder.
“I think I fulfilled what I wanted to do against Liverpool and I hope I can carry on enjoying the opportunities.
“Firstly, I think of West Ham and give the maximum result here. It is normal that as we are getting close to the World Cup, I like to keep pace and be in full capacity.
“I would like to have a good end so in the future have a new contract with the team.”
Having played for America Cali and Palmeiras before moving to Europe, Armero impressed during the two and a half seasons at Udinese, but his career started taking the wrong turn when he joined Napoli.
The full-back largely struggled to prove his worth at Stadio San Paolo and it looks as though he won’t be returning to Naples any time soon.
