Arsenal set to sign Costa Rica hotshot

Arsenal have agreed to sign striker Joel Campbell, according to Saprissa president Juan Roja.

The 19-year-old striker has attracted a lot of interest with his performances at 2011 Copa America and he is now set to make a big step in his career.

The player’s father and agent has already held talks with Arsenal officials, and Saprissa president has now confirmed the deal is close to fruition.

“There is an agreement in principle already, although everything is now on hold for Joel Campbell and his family to accept,” Roja told ADN Radio.

“No doubt, this would be a historical deal for the country, for Saprissa and for the player.

“We are happy for him because this is a unique opportunity, one to which you cannot say no, and we cannot refuse an offer like this.”

Having not played in 75 per cent of Costa Rica’s games over the last few years, Campbell would not be automatically granted a work permit, but Arsenal officials believe a special talent visa can be acquired.
