Arteta set for Arsenal stay

The Express understands that Mikel Arteta has agreed a one-year contract extension with Arsenal.

It had been reported that the Gunners captain was set to be available on a free transfer at the end of the season, though his agent Inaki Ibanez has claimed that he has penned a twelve month extension.

The 32 year old moved to the Emirates Stadium from Premier League rivals Everton in the summer of 2011, and has gone on to make one hundred and thirty-six appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side in all competitions, scoring sixteen times.

However, injury has limited the former Rangers and Real Sociedad man to just seven league outings so far this season while his only goal of the campaign came in the 3-3 Champions League group stage draw with Anderlecht in November.

Arsenal return to league action with a home match with Aston Villa, and are priced at 2/9 for the win.
