Atletico Mineiro claimed a 1-0 win at Palmeiras in Ronaldinho’s first game for the club to move top of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Ronaldinho wore Mineiro’s black and white stripes for the first time on Saturday, showing all his tricks and skill in his first match since his controversial exit from Flamengo.
Mineiro secured the victory thanks to Jo’s 49th-minute goal, which was set up by Bernard, extending their unbeaten start to the new season to four games.
Ronaldinho was visibly excited after the game, high-fiving and hugging his new team-mates, as Mineiro went to the top of the table with 10 points, one point ahead of Vasco da Gama, who have a game in hand.
In the other league match, Ronaldinho’s former club Flamengo defeated Coritiba 3-1.
Vagner Love put the home side ahead in just the sixth minute, drifting in behind Coritiba’s defence to volley past goalkeeper Paulo Victor.
Flamengo doubled their lead in the 13th minute when Luiz Antonio finished off a flowing move, bursting into the right side of the penalty area to finish well from a tight angle.
In an exciting first half, Coritiba hit back 11 minutes after Flamengo’s second goal through Emerson.
The second half was much tighter but Hernane came off the bench to score in injury time and clinch the two-goal win.
Flamengo have moved into sixth spot, while Coritiba sit in 12th on the overall standings.
