Ponte Preta closed to within one point of leaders Sao Paulo following their 2-2 draw away to XV de Piracicaba, while Botago also won.

Guto Ferreira’s men were unbeaten heading into Saturday’s match and that continued courtesy of William’s double.

An Artur own goal on 27 minutes handed the hosts the lead but Ponte Preta equalised through William, 13 minutes before the break.

The Brazilian striker handed his side the lead five minutes into the second half, however Marcelo Soares rescued a point for XV de Piracicaba with 20 minutes remaining.

Ponte Preta are just one point off top spot, although leaders Sao Paulo have two games in hand.

Botafogo bounced back from their loss at Ponte Preta midweek by overcoming lowly Ituano 2-1.

Giovanni opened the scoring for Botafogo six minutes after the break but Thiago Bezerra restored parity just two minutes later.

However, Botafogo found the winner one minute into injury time courtesy of late substitute Dimba.

In other results on Saturday, Palmeiras edged Linense 2-1, Baganitino accounted for Paulista 2-1, while Mirassol lost 1-0 at home to Penapolense.
