Connor warns players against selfishness

Wolves boss Terry Connor has urged his players not to think about their futures and instead concentrate on avoiding relegation.

Connor has seen his side gain just one point in six games since he took over in mid-February, and they find themselves six points from safety at the bottom of the table.

If Wolves were to be relegated from the Premier League, the future of some of the club’s bigger names would be cast into doubt.

Wayne Hennessey, Matt Jarvis, Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher have all been linked with moves away from Molineux, while Roger Johnson and Stephen Hunt are also expected to attract interest from within the English Premier League.

However, Connor wants his players to focus on the last seven games of the campaign.

“They play for this football club for the next seven games. Anything else – don’t think about it,” Connor told reporters.

“They’re here to help Wolves stay up and then we’ll decide what they can do with their contracts.”

Wolves face tough opposition to finish the season, including the visit of title-chasing Manchester City and third-placed Arsenal.

Connor said Wolves needed to at least show fight in each of the matches.

“I’ve told the players every game has to be competitive,” Connor said.

Wolves will be looking to get back on track on Saturday when they take on Stoke City in the Staffordshire derby.

Jamie O’Hara and Jody Craddock have been ruled out for the remainder of the season for Wolves because of injury.
