Competition: A-League

Market: Sydney FC win

Simply looking to sign off the 2023/24 campaign with an immediate response, Sydney will welcome Perth to the Allianz Stadium on Sunday morning.

Starting with the hosts, while Sydney might have eventually wrapped up a play-off ticket with time to spare, the Australian heavyweights are seeking some recent stability. Last seen putting in a toothless performance as they suffered a 1-0 loss away at Macarthur, Ufuk Talay’s men have managed to muster just a single victory from any of their previous four A-League appearances. However, although the Sky Blues might have failed to secure consecutive victories over the past couple of months, they will certainly be glad to make a return to home soil here. Last seen at the Allianz Stadium clinching a 2-1 win against local rivals Western Sydney, Sunday’s hosts are unbeaten in all of their previous eight A-League showdowns in front of their own supporters – a run that stems all the way back to December 9th. Likewise, it should also be highlighted that Talay’s side have collected 20 points from those eight consecutive matchups at the Allianz.

As for the visitors, sat rock-bottom of the A-League table and hit with this season’s wooden spoon, Perth have continued on a public crisis. Last seen slumping to an action-packed 4-3 loss at home against Western United, Alan Stajcic’s side have broken a string of unwanted records this year. Coming under a huge amount of scrutiny earlier in the month as they suffered an infamous 8-0 drumming at the hands of Melbourne City, the Glory have lost all of their last three A-League appearances by an aggregate score of 16-5. Likewise, along with mustering just a single point from any of their previous six outings, it should also be noted that Sunday’s guests are without a win from any of their nine showdowns on the bounce – a run that stems back to February 17th. Recording just a single A-League victory away from HBF Park throughout the 2023/24 campaign, Perth are rightfully pencilled in as a landslide underdog this weekend.
