(GSM) – Dutch side AZ earned a narrow win over Sheriff in their UEFA Europa League Group E opener while Dynamo Kyiv and BATE held each other to a 2-2 draw.

AZ were always favorite to beat Sheriff of Moldova at home in Alkmaar, and duly delivered as Johann Gudmundsson scored the opener after 14 minutes.

An own goal from Hector Moreno gave the visitors new hope in the 68th minute but AZ reacted well as Kew Jaliens restored his team’s lead with seven minutes to go.

In Ukraine, BATE Borisov of Belarus started well as Vitali Rodionov netted the opener after just three minutes.

But Dynamo turned things around with Artem Milevskiy equalising in the 34th minute and Roman Eremenko putting the hosts in the lead just before the break.

It would not be enough to secure three points however as BATE’s Pavel Nekhajchik found the target for 2-2 in the 54th minute.
