Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt have revealed that Liverpool are showing interest in centre-back Carlos Zambrano.
With Martin Skrtel set to leave Anfield after clashing with boss Brendan Rodgers and Jamie Carragher nearing the end of his career, the Reds are desperate to sign at least one central defender in the summer transfer window.
Daily Mirror has suggested that Eintracht Frankfurt stopper Carlos Zambrano is on Rodgers’ radar, and the link has now been confirmed.
“There is interest from Liverpool in Carlos Zambrano. They have asked about him, but there has not been an offer yet,” Eintracht chief Bruno Hubner was quoted as saying in Daily Mirror.
The Peruvian defender has spent his entire professional career in Germany, having arrived at Schalke as a 16-year-old.
He also enjoyed a two-year spell at St Pauli, but it was at Eintracht that he made a name for himself.
Zambrano has made a total of 21 Bundesliga appearances for the club this season, while also establishing himself as a first team regular in the national team.
The 23-year-old has become famous for his no-nonsense style and he labelled Leo Messi and Gonzalo Higuain ‘little girls’ after Peru held Argentina to a 1-1 draw in a 2014 World Cup qualifier.
