New Inter Milan boss Gian Piero Gasperini is confident he has the players to regain the Serie A title they lost to rivals AC Milan last season.

The former Genoa boss was appointed on June 24 after former coach Leonardo departed to take up a consultancy role at French club Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite being linked with players all over Europe, Inter have not made any significant moves so far in the off-season, though the club have taken up the option to sign Japan full-back Yuto Nagatomo permanently from Cesena.

But Gasperini is confident there is still plenty of quality at his disposal.

“The important thing is we have great and talented players,” Gasperini said.

“We must find our way and maintain a good attitude, we must want to do well and want to reach our objectives and of course with talented players it will be easier, not more difficult.”

The 53-year-old said he already knew most of the players and backroom staff at Inter, and believes this means he will be able to hit the ground running in the new role.

“I’m very well and I’m getting ready for the season here in Appiano Gentile (the town home to Inter’s training facility),” he said.

“I’m in luck as I know all the players and all the training staff. I immediately had the feeling that I was in the middle of everything. That’s where I operate at my best.”

“Aside from this preparation I will begin my work on Sunday. We’ve been already ready for 10 days and we’ll soon start working with the players.”

“This is a very strong team, I’m convinced of that and my aim is to have a great season together with the players.”

Despite coming to a club with such a strong history, Gasperini said he will not be looking back as he bids to have the team in top shape for the start of the season.

“I cannot look at the past, Inter have generations of great coaches and players,” he said.

“I have to start from the present and think only at the present, and at our near future.”

“We already have enough things to think about. The championship and the other competitions – that’s what’s in our minds at the moment.

“We know it’s important to win and we need to do a great job in order to do something great this season.”

“We want the supporters to appreciate that we will try to play good football and achieve good results, that’s our objective this season.”
