How much football do you want to watch?

This question or similar has became very relevant in my life recently.

My better half keeps asking me how much football do you want to watch?

And I keep telling her I want to watch as much football as I can!

Television

I feel privileged to be able to watch so much football. When I was younger it was a really big event to be able to watch a match live on television.

However I now get to watch the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A. The magic of television seems be in danger of ruining the magic of my relationship.

Live

It is now easier to go to go and buy soccer tickets online (I use the term soccer for our regular readers across the pond!). That means that fans from the likes of USA, Canada and Australia can buy tickets from the safety of their own home and live the dream of seeing their teams live, despite the long hours getting to their clubs ground.

Lucky

I consider myself to be really because of the fact that I live less than a mile away from Goodison Park, the home of my side Everton. I haven’t always lived so close but I have always been an Everton fan. I have to admit I cannot get to as many games as I like due to my work commitments.

However there is nothing better than going to watch your team play at home. The whole atmosphere in and around the ground is electric, especially when it’s a big game such as a derby. Watching a game on the television is a poor second to actually going to the stadium and watching a game in person.

Foreign

The glory of the Premier League and the other big European leagues is that they are now viewed around the world. Football teams are far more accessible to foreign fans with certain clubs having their own television channels.

I know a lot of football fans that live outside the country of the team that they support. In fact some of our most loyal readers are fans of football teams outside their country. And I think that’s brilliant. Some people live in countries where the standard of their domestic league is not great.

So they decide to support teams that play in a higher standard of league. If they love the game then there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Fair-weather

I do take issue with people who claim to support football teams and then not even know anything about the team or league that their team play in. I find that recently a lot of these so called fans are calling themselves Manchester City fans.

Yet, if you ask them who their favourite player is? They have no idea or they get their favourite players name wrong. These are the sort of fans that the game doesn’t need. These are the sort of fans I cannot stand.

Knowledgeable

I have to say that our regular readers must watch a lot of football because in general they are very knowledgeable about the beautiful game. They seem to devour knowledge on the game and obviously catch as much football they can.

Location

I am lucky as I live in England and can access so many channels which screen football. The available sports channels are not only good for me as a writer but also as a fan. These channels allow me to gain greater knowledge of foreign leagues and players and my partner doesn’t understand this.

I know a lot of readers who are outside the United Kingdom don’t get access to as many games as us fans in England and it’s a real shame.

Passion

Passion is the key to the football fans soul. The passion for our game and the position for our clubs drives us to spend hours on the internet and hours in front of the box watching football. This passion is hard to explain to somebody that really doesn’t understand your obsession.

After years with my partner she is finally starting to realise that she can’t stop me from watching the game I love and has given up trying to censor my viewing time. However that doesn’t mean it stops her from asking How much football do you want to watch?

Slow. Moved back down to Georgia. . . again. So now I have to settle for high school games and sign up for some local arena football programs that’ll be coming up soon. Not that any of that is bad, I love arena football!!! Unfortunately I’ve been doing more watching than playing, gonna be glad when that changes.

I don’t get to watch as much FOOTBALL as I’d like. Got some cousins who have several football specific channels (even Spanish speaking ones, where the only word we understand is GOL, lol) but I only get to watch whatever ESPN decides to show. Thankfully, that means just about every single USA game, both men’s and women’s, MLS Game of the Week, plus the playoffs, the occasional La Liga game, a Saturday morning EPL matchup (such as last week’s thriller at Stamford Bridge) and even college games.

Granted, as an American, I also love watching our kind of football, and also hockey, lacrosse, and basketball, but football, not ‘soccer’ is my favorite sport and I can never get enough of it.
