Jovetic set for Fiorentina stay; Modric to join Real Madrid for €42m

Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Della Valle has revealed that the club will not sell star forward Stevan Jovetic before the close of the summer transfer window, Sky Sports understands.

Jovetic, who bagged a brace against Udinese at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Saturday, has been linked with the likes of Juventus and Manchester City this summer.

Fiorentina are reportedly willing to allow Jovetic to leave the club for pastures new, but only if an offer in excess of €30 million (£23.7 million) comes in for the Montenegrin.

However, Della Valle has insisted that the 22-year-old attacker is staying put in Florence, at least for the time being.

“Jovetic is going nowhere,” Della Valle told calciomercato.com.

“He’s under contract and there is no release clause. A gentleman’s agreement exists, but we will absolutely not be letting him go now.

“As far as I’m concerned the transfer window should close when the championship starts.”

Jovetic tallied 14 goals and three assists for an offensively-challenged Fiorentina side in 2011/12, accounting for 45.95% of the Viola’s Serie A goals last term.

As previously mentioned, the Montenegro international has gotten off to a flying start after netting twice against Udinese in the opening match of the 2012/13 Serie A campaign.

Modric to join Real Madrid for £33m

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur midfield maestro Luka Modric is set to join La Liga giants Real Madrid for a fee worth up to €42 million (£33.3 million).

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was holding out for a £40 million pay day, but Madrid were having none of it. After weeks of negotiations, Levy finally decided that €42 million was too much to refuse.

Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Willian is rumoured to be Modric’s replacement at White Hart Lane, with the Ukrainian Premier League giants reportedly asking for £20 million for the Brazilian starlet.

In addition, Spurs have also shown interest in Joao Moutinho (FC Porto), Yann M’Vila (Stade Rennais) and Moussa Dembele (Fulham) this summer. Now then, Tottenham are unlikely to be able to meet Porto’s valuation for Moutinho, and M’Vila is not really an attacking midfielder.

On the other hand, Dembele, who was very impressive in Fulham’s 3-2 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford, is an intriguing option.

The Belgian would likely cost less than the £20m-rated Willian, but Fulham may not be willing to give up their playmaker, with Clint Dempsey surely set to leave Craven Cottage sometime this summer.

Tottenham are currently in 14th position in the English Premier League table following an opening day loss to Newcastle United and a disappointing draw against West Bromwich Albion.
