Diego Maradona’s future as Al Wasl coach will be decided by the club’s new board after a mass resignation at administrative level.
The club and company’s entire board of directors tendered their resignations this week, following a disappointing 2011/12 campaign – the club’s first term under Maradona, who joined on a two-year deal in May 2011.
Al Wasl finished the United Arab Emirates Pro-League season in eighth place, while last Sunday they lost the final of the Gulf Clubs Championship to Al Muharraq, despite winning the first leg 3-1.
The new board was announced this weekend and one of its members, Hassan Al Marri, confirmed to The National newspaper that Maradona’s future at the club would come under scrutiny.
“We will discuss the future of Maradona and all other topics related to the football team in the coming days,” Al Marri said.
