The Daily Star understands that Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has slammed reports that Kasper Schmeichel could be sold to Liverpool when the transfer window reopens.

The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for a new shot-stopper after less than convincing performances from their current incumbent and Schmeichel is said to be on their radar.

The Denmark international is rated at around £30m but Ranieri has insisted that the Foxes, who have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League, don’t need the extra income.

Schmeichel moved to the King Power Stadium from Leeds United in the summer of 2011 and has since racked up over two hundred and thirty appearances in all competitions.

He helped the East Midlands’ outfit clinch promotion to the Premier League in 2014 and was instrumental as they secured the title two years later while he has been capped twenty-two times by his country.
