Swansea´s Jenkins endorses Laudrup

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has backed new manager Michael Laudrup after an inconsistent start to the English Premier League season.

Laudrup took over as Swansea’s manager in June, replacing Brendan Rodgers, who left the Welsh club for Liverpool.

After winning their opening three games of the season with a goal difference of plus 10, Swansea have since recorded just one more victory in the next six matches, although Jenkins believes it was always likely the transition period from Rodgers to Laudrup would throw up some issues.

“As with any change in manager, particularly at a club who have been successful, it will take time to settle down,” Jenkins told the Daily Mail.

“Everyone has a different approach and this is a normal issue for us after Brendan Rodgers went to Liverpool.”

Swansea’s poor run has provoked reports some players at the club are unhappy with Laudrup’s coaching methods.

But having seen his team develop a reputation in the Premier League for possession-based football, Jenkins made it clear the Danish manager has agreed to maintain Swansea’s playing style.

“Michael knew the philosophy of the club when he came here and that won’t change whether he is the manager or not,” Jenkins said.

“They all agree to manage the club a certain way.”

Swansea is the fifth club Laudrup has coached but the 48-year-old attacking midfielder has only won silverware in his first job with Denmark’s Brondby from 2002 to 2006.

Laudrup has since managed Mallorca, Spartak Moscow and Getafe, taking the latter to the Copa del Rey final in the 2007/08 season.
