Zeman ignoring pressure on Roma

Roma coach Zdenek Zeman has defended himself as the pressure continues to grow on his team after their slow start to the season.

While Roma have been one of the most clinical teams in the Serie A this season, their defence ranks as one of the leakiest.

They dropped to eighth place after last week’s 3-2 derby defeat to Lazio, their third loss in four league games.

However, Zeman does not see their recent poor form as a valid source for criticism and remains enthusiastic about his future at the club ahead of their clash against Torino on Monday.

“I am happy that the club have kept their faith in me. I believe in this project, just as they do. This team has value and can play good football,” he told reporters.

“I’ve never got the feeling that Roma wanted to get rid of me. Obviously, if you lose seven games in a row, then you’ll feel under pressure, but we haven’t done that.

“When I do something, I am convinced it is the right thing. I have not made big mistakes. It is only natural that I have to answer to the results as I am responsible for the team.

“I want to see the team play football and remain concentrated for a full 90 minutes.”

Roma attacker Miralem Pjanic created a stir by shouting angrily towards the bench after his goal during the loss to Lazio, but Zeman insists the case is now closed.

“I understand his frustration and he wants to play, just like all the others, so he let something out after that goal,” he said.

“The lad came over afterwards to apologise.”
