17th April: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 8/1

With what promises to be a stacked weekend schedule from across Europe, Saturday offers us a host of noteworthy meetings. So, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday accumulator, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday 17th April

BST 12:30 Charlton Athletic vs Ipswich Town

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while some in Charlton’s camp might have been worried to see former boss Lee Bowyer head off to Birmingham earlier in the year, The Reds are enjoying a real purple patch. Managing to find their feet under former Southampton manager Nigel Adkins, they still have a play-off finish at the top of their agenda. Sat just three points adrift of breaking into the top-six, the Londoners were last seen putting in a shock performance on the road. Managing to land an eye-catching 2-1 win away at Sunderland, Charlton suddenly find themselves enjoying an extended eight-match League One unbeaten run, a run that stems back to February 27th. With the mood around The Valley likely to be at the highest it has been in 2021, Saturday’s hosts have also collected seven points from their last three contests on home soil. On the flip side, while Ipswich might have opened the campaign tipped as a leading contender in the promotion chase, The Blues are enduring another recent blip. Still looking to find their feet under new boss Paul Cook, they were last seen getting hit with a 3-0 drumming against AFC Wimbledon. It should also be noted that East Anglia outfit have won just one of their last seven third-tier matchups. Landing a 2-1 win when Charlton faced off against The Trotters earlier in the season, we’re backing a similar home victory for the high-flying Reds this weekend.

Tip: Charlton win @ 11/10

12:30 Barnet vs Aldershot Town

Turning our attention to the National League. While Aldershot might have spent the majority of last year’s interrupted campaign looking over their shoulder, Danny Searle’s side are certainly enjoying themselves this time around. Although any shock late charge for the play-off spots might seem a tad out of reach, The Shots have skyrocketed their way into the top-half. Really managing to bounce back after their blip last month, Aldershot once again caught the eye in midweek. Making the trip to Weymouth on Tuesday night, this weekend’s guests landed a thumping 3-0 win on their travels. Building off of that impressive 2-0 win against Dagenham & Redbridge on April 5th, The Reds have mustered nine points from their last four National League matchups. It should be noted, Searle’s men also landed a 1-0 victory against play-off contenders Notts County on their recent purple patch. On the flip side, while Aldershot might be looking to shore up their spot in the top-12 on Saturday lunchtime, Barnet find themselves enduring a real nightmare. Still sat 16 points adrift of safety and freefalling their way out of England’s fifth-tier, The Oranges have remarkably failed to win any of their last 13 straight National League contests, a run that stems back to the middle of February. It’s also worth highlighting that Barnet have lost each of their last five straight matchups on home soil.

Tip: Aldershot Town win @ 1/1

17:30 AFC Wimbledon vs Swindon Town

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while AFC Wimbledon might have opened up April with back-to-back defeats, The Dons have bounced back in a hugely impressive fashion. With the mood in their camp likely to be at a real high over the past week, Mark Robinson’s side have skyrocketed their way out of the drop zone. Despite opening 2021 tipped as one of the leading relegation scrappers, the Surrey outfit laid down another marker in midweek. Managing to build off of that shocking 5-1 romp against Accrington Stanley last weekend, The Blues also picked up a 3-0 win against play-off outsiders Ipswich last time out. Knowing that their third victory in as many outings this week can see them extend their buffer over the bottom-four to five points, Robinson’s men will be smelling a real chance on Saturday evening. On the flip side, while AFC Wimbledon have found a real boost at a crucial time, the same cannot be said of a struggling Swindon. Hit with a worrying 2-1 defeat against rock-bottom Rochdale last time out, The Reds are now in an uphill battle to extend on their League One status this year. Losing each of their last four third-tier contests, it should also be noted that this weekend’s guests have also lost back-to-back matchups on the road. Given Wimbledon’s recent boost, we’re backing a home win in Surrey on Saturday.

Tip: AFC Wimbledon win @ 23/20
