AC Milan appoint former Porto boss Conceicao after Fonseca sacking

Serie A giants AC Milan have appointed Sergio Conceicao as their manager after parting ways with Paulo Fonseca.

Milan’s decision to sack Fonseca came after just two wins from their last seven Serie A games, leaving them eight points behind leaders Atalanta in the standings.

Conceicao was most recently in charge of Porto, where he won three league titles and five cup competitions in seven seasons in charge of the club.

During his time in Portugal, he won 274 of his 379 games in charge in all competitions (D53 L52), averaging a win percentage of 72.30%, the highest of the six clubs he has previously managed.

Conceicao takes over a side that sit eighth in Serie A, but have fared better in Europe, occupying 12th place in the new 36-team Champions League table after six games.

A club statement said: “AC Milan announces that Sergio Conceicao has been appointed as the Head Coach of the men’s First Team until 30 June 2026.

“The Club extends a warm welcome to Sergio and his staff, wishing a journey full of success and fulfilment.”

Conceicao’s first game in charge of Milan will be an Italian Super Cup tie with Juventus in Saudi Arabia on Friday before they host Cagliari in Serie A on Saturday 11 January.
