Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor believes the club’s excellent form is down to the work ethic within the team.

The 27-year-old has scored five goals in nine Premier League matches for the north London side, including a brace in Monday’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, a result which saw Harry Redknapp’s side climb to third in the table.

The forward, on loan from Manchester City, insists that Spurs’ recent form is not just down to their success in front of goal, with the former Arsenal man hailing his side’s teamwork.

“It’s not all about scoring goals, it’s about what you put into the game – you have to defend for the team, run for the team,” Adebayor told Tottenham’s official website.

“Myself, Rafa (Rafael van der Vaart), Aaron Lennon, Gareth (Bale), we all work back, we all defend for the team. We tackle, run, defend and to play well and win, everyone needs to work for the team.”

“We said beforehand that we wanted to make it easy for ourselves against Villa.”

“To do that we have to work hard, show character, defend as a team, attack as a team and we did that well. The result shows that.”

“I don’t think we were under any real danger, they didn’t have many chances and we had a lot. It couldn’t have gone much better.”
