Adelaide re-sign Kosmina

Adelaide United have re-signed John Kosmina for next season, despite the coach managing just three A-League wins since taking over in December.

Adelaide chairman Greg Griffin made the announcement on Thursday, saying that despite this record, Kosmina had full support to lead the club going forward.

According to the club, Kosmina’s future was meant to be decided after the completion of Adelaide’s AFC Champions League campaign, despite Kosmina deferring match-day coaching responsibilities in that competition to assistant Luca Trani as he does not possess an AFC requisite A coaching licence.

But two wins in as many matches in the Champions League have seen the Reds board fast track the decision, although the club appears to have given themselves a way out if things do not go to plan, having signed him for just the one season.

“We discussed it with John and we’ve got a good relationship, it works as it is, it’s year by year and we’d be delighted if he was here as a long term coach,” said Griffin.

“When the time is right we will have the same discussion again, so the length of the term doesn’t matter, it’s the performance, and what we’ve seen is a terrific performance and one that deserves to be rewarded with an extension.”
