Yemen’s Al Orouba picked up the three points in their first AFC Cup Group B game as they beat East Bengal 1-0 in India.
Poor defending just before half-time by the Indian side lead to a penalty being awarded to Al Orouba in dubious circumstances.
The referee deemed that Sharyan had been fouled by Gurwinder Singh, to the disbelief of East Bengal manager Trevor Morgan.
Alao stepped up to squeeze the ball past Sandhu, who got his fingertips to the ball but was unable to push it past the post.
The second half saw the home side fight back, creating several chances to bring the scores level.
Edmilson’s free kick was scrambled away by Abdulwali, with the East Bengal players claiming the ball had crossed the line.
Al Orouba seemed content to sit back, creating little as they tightened their defence.
Naggar came closest for the visitors with his long range effort narrowly missing the far post.
And his side held out to take victory and move top of group B.
