Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor does not expect to receive a call-up to the next England squad, despite his run of good form.
The 26-year-old has netted six goals in his last seven outings for the Midlands club, including a second-half brace to secure a 2-1 victory over Norwich on Saturday.
But he does not believe Roy Hodgson will reward his recent performances when he picks his squad for the upcoming international friendlies and bemoaned the 65-year-old picking players, despite not impressing at club level.
Agbonlahor said: “He’s got players in there, even if they are not playing – the likes of (Arsenal winger Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain.
“He’s not played much and then he gets a call-up. It’s different to when Fabio (Capello) was here, because he picked players on form. But it’s the manager’s choice and I have just got to concentrate on Villa.
“I have always said that. Club comes first, and if country comes then it comes. But if the call comes then I am ready, of course. We will have to wait and see.
“It’s hard to say if I am playing as well now as I was when I was called up. Playing for England is always a pleasure – but the main thing for me is playing for Villa and getting them safe.”
England will face the Republic of Ireland and Brazil in a friendly double-header beginning at the end of May.
