Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has refuted suggestions that he may leave in the off-season for Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants had reportedly earmarked the Argentine sensation as a key target after his impressive inaugural season in England’s top flight, but the diminutive forward believes that he will be at the Etihad Stadium for the long term.

Aguero, who has scored 24 goals so far this season, is determined to help his side overcome Manchester United in the title race and secure domestic supremacy, but he wants a potential Premier League winner’s medal to be the first in a large collection.

Aguero told The Sun: “None of the stories about Real Madrid have come from me and the City fans can rest assured I am happy here.

“First and foremost, the major aim is to win the league title this season. Then I want to stay here for a long time after that.

“I’m very, very happy here. From the moment I arrived, everyone has treated me really well.

“It’s down to me to repay that kindness and good feeling I’ve had from everyone with some performances out on the field.”

As the season reaches its business end, City sit just a point off United with nine games left to play, including a key local derby at the Etihad Stadium on April 30.

The 23-year-old admitted that he would like to reach the personal milestone of 30 goals before the campaign is over, though he is prioritising collective glory.

“It would be lovely to score 30 — but the most important thing is the team getting the right results at the end of the day,” Aguero said.

“The main thing about scoring is not setting targets for yourself but scoring the goals that win points for the team.”
