Alabama cruised to the biggest prize in American college football after beating Louisiana State University 21-0 for the BCS Championship.

Louisiana State entered the match full of confidence after a 9-6 overtime win when the two sides last met in November.

But there would be no repeat as the Crimson Tide put in a disciplined defensive performance to keep their opponents scoreless in New Orleans.

LSU did not even cross the halfway line until the fourth quarter and managed just five first-downs for the match.

Jeremy Shelley’s kicking was important in the win as he booted five field goals while Trent Richardson scored the only touchdown of the game.

The win was Alabama’s second BCS title in three years.
