Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni believes players with ‘international mentality’ will be crucial in the Euro 2012 playoffs.

The first leg of Ireland’s playoff with Estonia takes place in Tallinn on Friday, and Trapattoni has been bolstered by the news Los Angeles Galaxy striker Robbie Keane will join up with the squad in the coming days.

Republic of Ireland captain Keane scored in the Galaxy’s win over Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference final in the MLS on Sunday.

He will be available to lead his country in Friday’s first leg, with the return leg in Dublin next Tuesday.

“In this important game you need the players with great personality, players with an international mentality,” Trapattoni said.

“Robbie (Keane) is not only our captain he has had 100 games in the national team. For this reason, it is important for me and us (to have him in the squad).”
