Allegri refuses to be drawn on talk of future

Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has ruled out any possibility of walking away from the club but admitted his future could be out of his hands.

Allegri’s side fought back to claim a 2-1 win over a plucky Siena side on Sunday, guaranteeing UEFA Champions League qualification for next season.

There were rumours this week that Allegri was on the verge of joining Roma, something which he ruled out once again when speaking after the game.

“I have a contract, so when a season ends you talk to the club in order to find out what we are supposed to do. The club might want to replace me, I don’t know!” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I certainly can’t walk away, as I have a contract, so it is their decision. When a coach talks to his club, of course he wants to improve the squad, but right now talking about the future is too early.”

Milan were widely expected to record a comfortable win over Siena, who were relegated last week after losing away to Napoli.

Allegri saw his side fall to Claudio Terzi’s first-half opener before a late penalty from Mario Balotelli and a strike from Philippe Mexes secured the win.

The Milan boss, who surprised many by starting with Stephan El Shaarawy on the bench, admitted that his team found it tougher than they had expected, but were still worthy winners.

He said: “Tonight we ran into a great goalkeeper and hit the woodwork, while we were a little too hasty and felt the tension of the occasion.

“I want to thank the players and the fans, who deserved a night like this. Stephan El Shaarawy was on the bench because he did not seem to be in good shape, while we needed someone with Robinho’s characteristics.”
