Villarreal and Real Madrid will lock horns with each other in La Liga this weekend. The match between the Yellow Submarine and Los Blancos will be held at Estadio de la Cerámica and is scheduled to kick off at  6 pm UK time on Sunday.

Villarreal

Villarreal are a major club in Spain who always tend to challenge for European places in the La Liga table. The Yellow Submarine have played in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League in recent seasons, and they tend to do well in those competitions.

Marcelino’s side finished fifth in La Liga last season, and the expectation was for them to push on in this campaign. However, Villarreal have not been particularly great. The Yellow Submarine are now eighth in the La Liga table with 51 points from 36 games.

Villarreal will head into the La Liga match against Real Madrid on the back of a 1-0 victory over Girona away from home in the league. It came after a 3-2 victory over Villa in front of their fans in La Liga which followed a 3-2 loss to Celta de Vigo on the road in the league.

Team News:

Villarreal are likely to line up in a 4-4-2 formation against Real Madrid. Filip Jörgensen will be in goal for the Yellow Submarine and will have Adria Altimira, Eric Bailly, Yerson Mosquera and Jorge Cuenca in front of him in defence. Bertrand Traore, Santi Comesana, Dani Parejo and Alex Baena are likely to be the four midfielders and will have Goncalo Guedes and Alexander Sorloth in front of them as the two centre-forwards.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid are arguably the biggest club in the world, and they are on course to having a very successful season. Los Blancos have reached the final of the UEFA Champions League where they will take on Borussia Dortmund, and they have also already won the La Liga title.

Madrid have picked up 93 points from 36 La Liga matches this season. Their bitter rivals and last season’s champions, Barcelona, are second with 76 points from 35 games. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have been head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in the league, scoring as many as 83 goals and conceding only 22.

Los Blancos will head into the La Liga match against Villarreal this coming weekend on the back of a 5-0 hammering of Alaves at the Santiago Bernabeu. It came after a 4-0 victory over Granada away from home in the league which followed a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final tie, which saw them progress to the final 4-3 on aggregate.

Team News:

Real Madrid are likely to line up in a 4-3-1-2 formation against Villarreal. Thibaut Courtois will be in goal for the home team and will have Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Nacho and Ferland Mendy ahead of him in defence. Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Toni Kroos will be the three midfielders. Jude Bellingham will be deployed as the playmaker, with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo as the two forwards.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Villarreal have won 4 of their last 6 La Liga matches.
  • Villarreal have scored 60 goals and conceded 60 goals in 36 La Liga matches this season.
  • Real Madrid have lost just 1 of their 36 La Liga games this campaign.
  • Real Madrid have conceded only 22 goals in 36 La Liga matches this season.
  • Jude Bellingham has scored 19 goals and given 6 assists in 27 La Liga matches for Real Madrid this season.

Conclusion

Real Madrid have already won the La Liga title this season and are unlikely to be 100% keen on winning the match. However, head coach Carlo Ancelotti will be keen on his team maintaining their momentum in the build-up to the UEFA Champions League final. A narrow win for the newly-crowned Spanish champions is the most likely outcome in this game.

Prediction: Real Madrid to win 2-0
