Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that Montpellier were a better side in Ligue 1 this season.

The French capital club defeated Lorient 2-1 on the season’s final day on Sunday, but still finished second as Montpellier disposed of Auxerre 2-1 to finish three points clear at the top.

Ancelotti took positives from PSG’s campaign in the league, noting that it will allow the club to compete in the Champions League next season.

“Congratulations to Montpellier,” he told Canal+.

“We had a good season, but we missed a little something to win the title.

“It is a good experience for the future. We have to look for the future with confidence.

“Second place is not bad because it qualifies us for the Champions League. What we have done this season will be useful for the next one.”
