Ancelotti: Forwards reaped rewards

Paris Saint-Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti said his side’s win over Ajaccio will give them a confidence boost in their Ligue 1 title charge.

Goals from Javier Pastore, Guillaume Hoarau, Jeremy Menez and Nene helped PSG to a comfortable 4-1 win at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.

The win saw them return to the top of Ligue 1 – one point ahead of second-placed Montpellier.

Ancelotti said four goals was a worthy dividend for PSG’s efforts in the front third.

“I thought we played well. We created lots of opportunities and chances to score. Pastore, Hoarau, Menez. Our forward players played really well,” the former Chelsea manager said.

“It was important for us because quite a few results went our way last night. We were under a bit of pressure to get a win tonight. And we did win, it’s important for our confidence, it’s important for the team.”

PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi said the capital side will do everything they can to win the title.

“It was important for our confidence for the games to come. We did what we needed to. It was a shame to have conceded before half-time. But we responded in the second half and did what was asked of us to win this match, and get quite a comprehensive win,” Matuidi said.

“We mustn’t give anyone an inch – we mustn’t think about other teams. We’re going to do everything we can do be champions – that’s our aim.”
