A Santiago Silva double has put Lanus on top of the Argentina Primera Division as they swept aside Belgrano 3-0 on Sunday.

Silva struck just before half-time and in the 61st minute before Carlos Izquierdoz completed the rout in the 72nd minute.

With the Primera Division commencing on Friday, Lanus’ plus-three goal difference secured them top spot after the first round of matches.

Godoy Cruz got their campaign off to the best possible start with a 3-1 home win against Argentinos Juniors.

Jorge Curbelo sent the home fans into raptures in the eighth minute before Mauro Obolo scored either side of Argentinos’ only strike; a spot-kick from Rodrigo Gomez.

Uruguayan centre forward Martin Cauteruccio scored twice including a late winner as San Lorenzo saw off Olimpo 2-1.

Cauteruccio opened the scoring in 16th minute before Nahuel Benitez equalised for Olimpo after 26 minutes.

But Cauteruccio again popped up to find the net in the 89th minute to delight the home fans and give his club a winning start to the season.

Velez Sarsfield grabbed a last-gasp 2-1 win at Tigre in an action-packed ending to a tense encounter.

Lucas Pratto finished Hector Canteros’ assist in the 54th minute to give Velez Sarsfield the lead before Gaston Diaz levelled from the spot on 62 minutes.

But Velez Sarsfield were awarded a 94th-minute penalty which Pratto stepped up to convert and win the game for his side.

Tigre attacker Matias Perez Garcia was red-carded in the 95th minute despite having already been substituted out of the game.

On Friday, Julio Furch’s 92nd-minute penalty salvaged a 1-1 draw for Arsenal against Estudiantes while on Saturday, All Boys and Atletico Rafaela fought out a 1-1 result and Racing Club secured an early lead before also finishing in a 1-1 deadlock against Colon.

On Sunday, Carlos Luna’s brace powered Rosario Central to a 2-0 win over Quilmes while Gimnasia La Plata scraped a 1-0 victory against River Plate.
