Arsenal’s French midfielder Francis Coquelin has moved to Bundesliga side Freiburg on a season-long loan.
Coquelin, who can also play in defence, joined the Premier League club at 17 and has made 43 appearances.
However, the 22-year-old struggled to become a regular fixture in Arsene Wenger’s side and will now hope to feature more regularly for the German outfit.
Freiburg qualified for the UEFA Europa League last season thanks to a fifth-placed finish in the Bundesliga, and Coquelin will be able to draw on his experience of European football at Arsenal, having played in the UEFA Champions League.
A statement on Arsenal’s website read: “Having signed a new contract with the club in 2012, Coquelin will look to gain further experience and build up his playing time as he joins Christian Streich’s Freiburg side.
“Everyone at Arsenal wishes Francis success for his time in Germany.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal have also confirmed that Switzerland defender Johan Djourou has completed his loan move to German side Hamburg.
Djourou will also be loaned for the entirety of the coming season, having made 144 appearances for the London club.
