Serie A club Cagliari have announced the appointment of Davide Ballardini as their new manager.

The Sardinia-based outfit were on the lookout for a new coach after parting company with Massimo Ficcadenti earlier this week.

Club president Massimo Cellino lost patience with former Cesena boss Ficcadenti following a run of five games without a win.

Ballardini previously worked at Cagliari during the 2005/06 and 2007/08 campaigns and will be looking to help the club stay clear of the drop zone in his third spell at Stadio Sant’Elia.

Cagliari currently sit 10th in the Serie A table with 13 points from 10 games and travel to Inter Milan for their next league outing.
