Barcelona can be beaten at home: Beckenbauer

Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer is confident the German giants can win at Barcelona’s Nou Camp stadium in Wednesday night’s Champions League quarter-final.

Even though Bayern were hammered 5-1 by Bundesliga leaders Wolfsburg on Saturday, ex-Germany captain Beckenbauer – who captained and coached his country to World Cup glory – says Barcelona are beatable.

“Barcelona are not only used to playing well at home, but they are also used to winning at home,” said Beckenbauer.

“If you look at the championship, at home they are, of course, a power.

“But they have lost some games and in football the favourite is not always victorious.

“They have already lost games in the past, but Bayern must improve substantially if they want to have any chance of being victorious.”

Barcelona have lost just once at home in La Liga this season, but history favours Munich.

The German side have won three and drawn one of their four games against Barcelona in Europe and have come out victorious on both of their previous visits to Spain.

But the Spanish club, who reached the last four last season, boast an impressive run of form against German opposition having won ten and drawn one of their last eleven matches against sides from the Bundesliga.
