Barcelona set to sign Bale; Roma confirm Luis Enrique exit

Barcelona set to sign Bale

Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign Tottenham full-back Gareth Bale, according to Futboleros, a program on Marca TV.

The Catalans have been in the market for a new left-back and the Welshman was thought to be their number one target.

At one moment it looked as though they would be unable to prize the player away from White Hart Lane, but Tottenham’s recent struggles appear to have persuaded the player into accepting an offer from Barcelona.

According to the report, Barca have agreed a €40 million deal for the highly rated winger and the transfer is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Gareth Bale is set to sign a five-year contract with the Spanish giants worth €5 million per season.

The Welshman has been one of the star performers in English Premier League this season, having scored 10 goals and produced as many assists in 35 league games.

While Bale was mostly used as a winger or attacking midfielder at Tottenham this term, he is expected to cover the left-back position at Camp Nou.

Roma confirm Luis Enrique exit

AS Roma have confirmed they are searching for a new coach to replace Luis Enrique.

The Spaniard yesterday informed the squad that he will leave the club at the end of the season and he is expected to announce his decision at a press conference.

AS Roma general director Franco Baldini has confirmed reports linking Enrique with a summer exit from Olimpico.

“Luis Enrique wanted to officially tell the players first,” Baldini told Sky Sport Italia. “We’ve known for some time.

“After the game against Fiorentina we had a long chat and he told us of his intentions.

“We think he’s done a good job and that is why we invited him to take his time and end the championship before making a final choice.”

Baldini is not yet prepared to talk about Enrique’s potential replacements.

“Since I was told by Luis Enrique that he wouldn’t stay, it was our job to think about alternatives.

“We’ve considered a lot of names, but nobody has been contacted yet because the time wasn’t right.”

Luis Enrique arrived to Olimpico in the summer from Barcelona B, but in spite of heavy summer recruitment he failed to help the team realize their ambitions.

With one more game to go, Roma occupy 7th place in the standings, and they are three points adrift of 6th-placed Inter.

Wolfsburg win race for Eredivisie goal machine

Wolfsburg are on the verge of signing striker Bas Dost from Heerenveen, according to a report in Bild.

The 22-year-old finished the season as Eredivisie top scorer with magnificent return of 32 goals in 34 league appearances and is rightly considered one of the most prolific strikers in Europe.

Herenveen chiefs feel this is the right time to cash in on their star player and Bild claims the Dutch side have already agreed to sell Dost to Wolfsburg for a fee of €6.5 million.

The Wolves are in desperate need of a proven goalscorer and they believe the young Dutchman will help the team become more ruthless up front.

The towering striker is expected to battle Mario Mandzukic and Patrick Helmes for a place in the starting line-up.

In spite of his impressive performances this season, Dost was omitted from Bert van Marwijk’s provisional Netherlands squad for the Euro 2012.
