Belgian First Division wrap: Gent cut gap to leaders

Gent moved within seven points of Belgian First Division leaders Anderlecht with a 2-0 win over Mechelen on Saturday.

Bernd Thijs put the visitors ahead on 14 minutes when he converted a penalty before Elimane Coulibaly made it two four minutes from time.

Sint Truiden picked up a vital three points to move off the foot of the table with a 1-0 win at home to Zulte-Waregem.

Dolly Menga scored the winner for Sint Truiden on 39 minutes, but they remain eight points adrift of safety despite their three-match unbeaten run.

Kortrijk moved level on points with Racing Genk following Brecht Dejaeghere’s stoppage-time winner.

The home side went two goals up before half-time but Jelle Vossen’s second-half brace for Genk made the final score 2-2.

Lokeren beat Westerlo 4-0 with three goals in the first half while Mons overcame two deficits to defeat Beerschot 4-2. Jeremey Perbet scored a double for Mons including a penalty.

Leuven and Lierse played out a goalless draw.
