Belgian First Division wrap: Goals flow for Anderlecht, Club Brugge

It was raining goals in the Belgian First Division on Sunday as Anderlecht and Genk both scored big wins.

Anderlecht extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points with a 4-2 victory at home to sixth-placed Genk.

The visitors took a surprise lead after seven minutes at the Stade Constant Vanden Stock when Cristian Benteke found the back of the net, but order was restored just one minute later when Argentine Matias Suarez struck an equaliser.

Sacha Kljestan ensured Anderlecht would go into half time with a 2-1 lead when he scored on 35 minutes, and Dieumerci Mbokani got the hosts off to the perfect start after the break with a third just after the hour mark.

Elianiv Barda kept Genk in the contest with his goal just two minutes later, but Mbokani scored his second with 10 minutes remaining to seal the three points for Anderlecht.

Elsewhere, Club Brugge smashed Germinal Beerschot 5-1 to jump to third on the table.

Joseoph Akpala began the rout with Brugge’s first goal in the fifth minute, and by the half-hour mark it was 3-0 after further strikes from Mushaga Bakenga and Maxime Lestienne.

Vuzumuzi Nyoni gave Beerschot a glimmer of hope with his 35th minute effort, but Akpala and Lestienne both found the net again as Brugge hammered home their superiority.
