Competition: EFL Trophy

Market: Cambridge United win

Odds: 7/10 @ BetUS

Two sides who will turn their attention back to EFL Trophy duties on Tuesday night, Cambridge will welcome Colchester to the Abbey Stadium.

Starting with the hosts, suffering last-gasp heartbreak over the weekend as they eventually had to settle for a sluggish 1-1 stalemate at home against Shrewsbury, Cambridge find themselves in the midst of an extended rut. Once again battling it out in the bottom-half of the League One table, Mark Bonner’s side have failed to muster a single win from any of their previous seven appearances across all formats – a run that stems back to the start of September. However, excited by the prospect of returning to EFL Trophy duties on Tuesday night, the U’s will take some solace from their largely impressive record on home soil. Along with landing a gritty 1-0 victory against Reading back on September 4th, Cambridge have lost just one of their last five showdowns in front of their own supporters. Likewise, unbeaten in any of their previous four meetings against the midweek guests, Bonner’s side should be smelling a golden chance to claim a real boost at the Abbey Stadium here.

As for the visitors, while Colchester might have eventually clung to their League Two status last season, it appears that the Essex-based outfit are destined for another relegation scrap this time around. Last seen over the weekend putting in another woeful display as they slumped to a 5-0 drumming at the hands of Forest Green, Ben Garner’s side have lost each of their previous three appearances across all fronts. With just their goal difference currently keeping them out of the drop zone, the midweek guests have also claimed just a single victory from any of their previous eight attempts – a run that stems back to September 9th. With their extended struggle highlighted by a 3-1 loss at home against Morecambe earlier in the month, Colchester have continued to gain a reputation for their rather glaring issues at the back. Now shipping a staggering 10 strikes on their three-match losing run, Garner’s downbeat squad could face another tricky test on Tuesday night.

Bet: Cambridge United 7/10 to beat Colchester in Tuesday’s EFL Trophy showdown @ BetUS
