Competition: Irish Premier Division

Market: Drogheda win

Odds: 13/10 @ BetUS

Meeting for the second time in the space of a week on Friday night, Drogheda will welcome Sligo Rovers to Weavers Park.

Starting with the hosts, extending on their FAI Cup adventure last week and punching their quarter-final ticket thanks to a 2-1 win against Sligo, Drogheda have certainly claimed a welcomed boost since opening July. Pushing themselves away from a looming relegation scrap and now holding a five-point buffer from slipping into the drop zone, Kevin Doherty’s men will be desperate to claim what could be a season-defining victory here. Last seen in top-flight action storming their way to a 3-1 romp away at UC Dublin, the County Louth-based outfit are unbeaten in each of their last four showdowns against Premier Division opposition. Likewise, suffering just a single loss from any of their last six appearances – a run that stems back to June 5th – Friday’s hosts could be smelling a real chance here. Notching five strikes in their back-to-back victories over the past fortnight, Doherty’s side are also enjoying their longest unbeaten run since the start of March.

As for the visitors, while Sligo might have claimed a much-needed boost at home against Cork earlier in the month, John Russell’s men certainly came crashing back down to earth last weekend. Limping out of the FAI Cup following that 2-1 loss away at Weavers Park, the Rovers have continued to struggle with their consistency on either side of June’s international break. With some in their camp still looking over their shoulders at a looming relegation scrap, the Reds have claimed just a pair of wins from any of their last eight straight showdowns against Premier Division opposition – a run that stems back to May 27th. Opening July with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Derry, Friday’s guests have also gained a reputation for their continued issues on the road. In fact, including that 2-1 loss away at Drogheda last weekend, Russell’s men have also mustered just a sole point from any of their previous five showdowns away from the Showgrounds.

Bet: Drogheda 13/10 to beat Sligo Rovers in Friday’s Irish Premier Division matchup @ BetUS
