Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the League One table, Derby will travel to Highbury when they meet Fleetwood on Saturday lunchtime.

Starting with the hosts, while some in Fleetwood’s camp might have had their sights set on mounting a genuine top-half charge this season, new boss Charlie Adam has a real job on his hands in 2024. Last seen on New Year’s Day putting in another downbeat performance as they slumped to a routine 3-1 loss at the hands of Shrewsbury, the one-time Stoke midfielder finds his squad sat rock-bottom of the League One table and rightfully tipped as a landslide relegation scrapper here. Already five points adrift of third-tier safety, the Lancashire-based outfit have collected just a pair of points from any of their last 10 appearances across all competitions. With that extended crisis stemming all the way back to November 11th, Adam’s side have also shown some rather glaring issues on home soil. Last seen at Highbury getting hit with a 2-0 defeat against local rivals Bolton, Fleetwood have registered just a single League One victory in front of their own supporters since the end of September.

As for the visitors, watching their eight-match unbeaten run come to an abrupt end on New Year’s Day, Derby will certainly be seeking an immediate response here. However, despite eventually slumping to an action-packed 3-2 loss against Peterborough earlier in the week, Paul Warne’s men are still dreaming of the chance to book a Championship return in 2024. Holding a three-point buffer from dropping out of the play-off places, the Rams will be smelling a golden opportunity here. Hoping to make up some ground in the automatic promotion chase, Warne will be hugely excited by his side’s continued success away from Pride Park. Last seen on their travels landing a 3-2 victory against Oxford, Derby have won all of their last four straight away fixtures by an aggregate score of 8-2. Likewise, extending on their EFL Trophy adventure back on December 5th as they clinched a 3-0 romp against Fleetwood, we are expecting a similar outcome on Saturday lunchtime.
