Competition: A-League

Market: Melbourne City win

Odds: 8/15 @ BetUS

Hoping to skyrocket their way into the play-off places, Melbourne City will welcome Newcastle to AAMI Park on Saturday morning.

Starting with the hosts, while Melbourne City might have continued to show some extended inconsistencies this season, Aurelio Vidmar’s men entered March’s international break with a real flurry. Last seen putting in a stunning performance at AAMI Park as they stormed their way to a 7-0 romp against Western Sydney, the Sky Blues have secured back-to-back A-League victories for the first time since opening the New Year. Marking their return from the fortnight break sat just two points adrift of breaking into the play-off places, the former Australia coach will be calling on another statement here. Losing just one of their final five appearances prior to the international break, Melbourne will also be excited by their continued success on home soil. It should be highlighted, Vidmar’s side have collected 10 points from their previous four A-League showdowns in front of their own supporters. Not shipping a single goal at AAMI Park since back on January 12th, the Sky Blues should be smelling a potential opportunity this weekend.

As for the visitors, only continuing on what has been another public A-League nightmare this season, Newcastle are scrapping it out at the foot of the table. Last seen heading into March’s international break with a toothless 1-0 loss at home against Adelaide, the Jets are without a single win from any of their previous eight appearances – a run that stems back to January 23rd. Likewise, collecting just a single victory since opening the New Year, Saturday’s guests have also gained a real reputation for their struggles on the road. In fact, Robert Stanton’s men have collected just a trio of points from any of their last seven showdowns away from the McDonald Jones Stadium. It should also be highlighted, Newcastle have collected just a single win at AAMI Park from their last 11 attempts. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are backing a home victory this weekend.
